The Penguins took the Capitals to seven games and sent them home in the second round once again. They definitely look like Stanley Cup favorites.
Ottawa has made it further than expected. They were a bit lucky to survive past the second round against New York. In game 2, they were down two goals with three minutes remaining and came back to win in overtime. In game 5, they were again down in the last minutes of the game and came from behind to go up 3-2. Credit definitely needs to go to them, but if New York closed out those games, the Rangers would have won in five games. Ottawa found a way to move on, though.
I have Pittsburgh moving on. They just seem too strong for Ottawa. A goaltending battle would be about even, but Pittsburgh’s 12.3 shot percentage leads to 3 to 4 goals per game, which would, most of the time, lead to a win. My Stanley Cup Final matchup, therefore, is Nashville vs Pittsburgh.
