New York Islanders vs Tampa Bay Lightning
I am taking the Lightning in 5 or 6. After the performance they displayed against Detroit without Stamkos, I have to go with them in this series. The Islanders gave up 39.2 shots per game in round one, and if they continue that, they are looking at giving up 3.41 goals per game while scoring 2.11. If Greiss continues his stellar play, he could keep the goals against average to below 2, but that would not be able to hold up in a 7 game series, and could get them only one or two games.
Washington Capitals vs Pittsburgh Penguins
I’m taking the Penguins in a tight series. They are the hottest team right now, and I don’t see them slowing down. The offense is off the charts, where they lit up Lundqvist twice. They hold a shot percentage of 13.7%, possibly scoring 3.53 goals in this series on 30.8 shots if that rate holds up. Not to mention they have a red hot power play at 38%. Washington averages 2.31 goals if they continue at their rate. If goaltending is the story, however, the Caps will come on top with Holtby having a .961 save percentage. In the end, though, I think the Penguins prevail. I have to give credit where credit is due. Jim Rutherford has made some nice moves, and Sullivan has utilized the guys perfectly.
