The Los Angeles Kings became just the second team to miss the playoffs the year following a Stanley Cup championship. I’m not sure they will be making them this season, either.
A good move they made was trading for Milan Lucic. They gave up a hefty price for him, but he was a smart acquisition. Of course, like many Bruins’ players, he can be dirty, but he’s a big body who plays a two-way game and throws his weight around. Unfortunately, the loss of Justin Williams makes him more of a replacement than an improvement. After giving up Martin Jones as a part of the trade for Lucic, they needed a backup goaltender. They signed Jonas Enroth, who is a solid replacement for Jones, being pretty much a fringe starter.
Unfortunately for them, they could not re-sign Andrej Sekera, making the trade deadline deal with Carolina look lopsided in the Hurricanes’ favor. They lost a great two-way defenseman, damaging their blue line. They did sign Christian Erhoff, a top 4 offensive defenseman, but I don’t think he is as good as Sekera.
Overall, I don’t think they improved, nor do I believe they have gotten worse. They will be in the race for the playoffs, but I’m not sure I see them making it.
