Detroit had another strong season, making the playoffs for the 24th straight season. Unfortunately for them, they were sent home by the Tampa Bay lightning in the first round of the playoffs. I believe they had a successful offseason.
The biggest move they made was signing defenseman Mike Green. He is a strong top 4 defenseman that can make an impact on both ends of the ice. He was the top defenseman on the Washington Capitals for many years. He has a 31 goal, 42 assist season on his resumé and two 70+ point seasons overall. While those years are behind him, he’s still capable of putting up 40-50 points. Only question is if he’s gonna stay healthy for the entire season. That is the one thing holding him back.
Another acquisition was Brad Richards, who will be a good veteran presence. He didn’t produced as much during his tenure in Chicago as he has in the past, but still was very useful, producing 50 points. A new scenery may do him some good. He is a great playmaker who can also score some goals.
A great move was re-signing Gus Nyquist. He is one of a variety of good young players. In 82 games last season, he scored 27 goals and gave out the same amount of assists for 54 points. The season before he produced 48 points in 57 games (28 goals, 20 assists).
I believe they will make their 25th straight playoff appearance, as I think they are an even better team than they were last season.
