After making the playoffs in 2014 for the first time since 2008, the Stars had a disappointing following season. The eleven games Tyler Seguin missed became a huge blow to their playoff chances. They lost probably 10-12 points from his absence, finishing 7 points back of a playoff spot.
The acquisition of Patrick Sharp I believes puts them back in the playoffs, especially if Seguin stays healthy. He adds additional offense as a 30 goal scorer. He is very good at both ends of the ice, also. The move also helps them stay afloat if someone like Seguin goes down again.
Dallas allowed the 5th most amount of goals against last season, another big piece to the problem. A smart acquisition was grabbing Antii Niemi from San Jose, allowing pressure to be taken off of Lethonen. I believe it’ll be up there with the Hiller/Ramo and Ward/Lack tandems as one of the best in the league. The final move they made was acquiring defenseman Johnny Oduya to add to that defense that allowed 260 goals last season.
I believe they improved both offensively and defensively and will be looking at another postseason run. I believe they will grab a wild card position.
