I do not believe the Avalanche did enough this offseason to make it back into the playoffs. It looks as though they were a one year wonder.
First off, they were on the wrong end of the O’Reilly trade. Nikita Zadorov and Gregorenko is not a good return for Ryan O’Reilly. Colorado did get a good acquisition in Carl Soderberg, but signed him to a bad contract. To improve their defense, they acquired Francois Beauchemin to help an awful blue line, which was smart. Blake Comeau, who they signed, was a good acquisition. He will help depth wise, which Colorado lacked last season. He can bring 15-20 goals to the bottom six.
Even with the couple of good moves they made, I don’t believe they made enough of an improvement, especially since they reside in the Western Conference. They didn’t gain any goal support, and while they slightly improved their defense, I do not think it is enough to lift them into a playoff spot.
