Yesterday, the Rangers and Marc Staal agreed on a six year contract with an AAV of $5.7 million per year. Marc Staal is a great defenseman, so it could be said it’s good that the Rangers re-signed him to this deal. On the other hand, as a lot of fans seem to think, it is too long of a contract for someone who is about 30 years old, lasting until he is nearing the end of his career. They could regret this move as his play declines 3-4 years into the deal. One thing is for sure, the rumor of Carolina acquiring all four Staals is gone, unless New York decides to trade him out of regret down the road.
