The Canadiens won the Northeast division last season, ending up 2nd in the East. Their offense was very good, tied for 3rd in the league, and the defense wasn’t that bad either. Unfortunately for them, they lost to their divisional opponent, the Ottawa Senators, in the first round of the playoffs. I think they will have another successful season.
One great move they made was acquiring George Parros from Florida to help out in the physical game. It also takes some pressure off Brandon Prust, who took too many penalties last season. I also think signing Daniel Briere was a good move as well. His numbers didn’t show up last season, with 16 points in 34 games, but he is a veteran who brings a lot of leadership, and is a good playoff performer.
Buying out Tomas Kaberle was also smart move, also. I don’t mean any disrespect to the defenseman, but he hasn’t been living up to his potential, making a lot of mistakes.
For this season, I see them as a top 3 team in the Atlantic division.
