Detroit had a good offseason, after a disappointing finish to the season. Up 3-1 in the Western Conference semi-finals, they were one game away from eliminating the Blackhawks, looking like they could actually win the Cup. They gave up the lead and lost in 7 games. Their main problem was the offense, only scoring 124 goals. If it wasn’t for their goaltending, they would’ve been out of the playoffs.
The offense was improved a bit; the loss of Brunner didn’t help, though. He was third on the team in scoring during the regular season, and was the scoring leader in the playoffs. Acquiring Daniel Alfredsson and Stephen Weiss will help with the offense, and will make them more of a threat.
They had no defensive upgrade, though, so their goaltending needs to hold up like it did this past season.
I think they will be fighting for a top 3 spot in the division.
