The Sabres finished with a 21-21-6 record, 7 points behind a playoff spot. They were in the bottom half in defense and in scoring. I have a feeling this season will be the same for them. They drafted very well, grabbing two big future star defensemen in Ristolainen and Zadorov in the first round, as well as two second round picks. That said, they didn’t make many improvements over the summer. The acquisitions they made came mostly during the draft, trading for a 1st round pick, and then sending Sekera to Carolina for McBain and a 2nd round pick. One good acquisition they made was acquiring Henrik Tallinder, a solid, 6’3″, 216 lbs defenseman. It won’t be enough to make the playoffs this season, but there is a bright future for this team, building a strong defensive core. There isn’t much else to explain with the quiet offseason they’ve had.
