The New York Islanders had a disappointing season last year. They ended with a 34-37-11 record, with only 203 goals-for, and a horrible 255 goals-against. I think this off-season was a success, though.
Their biggest loss was star forward PA Parenteau; he can put up a lot of points. Their are other losses were Jay Pandolfo, Steve Staios ( retired), and goalie Al Montoya.
The Islanders built up a lot of toughness. They signed Matt Carkner, a 6′ 4” 240 lb player, as well as Eric Boulton. They grab scoring in Brad Boyes. He can put up 70+ points in a season, yet he can be little inconsistent. In a trade during the NHL draft, they received Lubimir Visnovski, a star defenseman coming over from Anaheim.
Surprisingly, near the end of the season last year, they were in the race for the playoffs, only 6 points behind. A bad run kicked them out of the race and they ended 13 points behind. If Brad Boyes can have a good season, I think, with the help defensively from Visnovski, they will be in the fight for a playoff spot.
