Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens ended the 2012 season last in the Eastern Conference.  They had a 31-35-16 record. Their offseason was mostly about toughness.

The Canadiens’ only departure was enforcer Brad Staubitz. They signed Brandon Prust, a checking line forward who beings some physicality, as well as Colby Armstrong.  I’ve seen him put on some punishing hits during games.

The Canadiens had 212 goals-for, and 226 goals-against.  Bringing in toughness can help defensively.  Along with that, Armstrong can score 30-40 points in a full season, and Prust can bring in 20-30 points; that’s enough to make progress offensively.  I think they’ll be in the race for the postseason.
