Next is the Florida Panthers. They finished 1st in the Southeast division last year, but had subpar performance throughout the season. I may be a Canes fan, but I’ll admit, it was not a strong division in 2011-2012. They ended up with a 38-26-18 record. With the Washington Capitals at 42-32-8, the reason the Panthers won the division was their 18 overtime losses.
The Florida Panthers lost some key players this past off-season. The 1st one was Mikael Samuelsson, who, like I said below, signed with the Detroit Red Wings. As I also said, he can put up points. Next was star Jason Garrison, a two-way defenseman who can score, defend, and at 6′ 2” and 220 lb, play the physical game. They also lost another great score, Wojtek Wolski. Krys Barch was the final departure.
Their additions were pretty good, though. they signed Philip Kuba, who is a good defenseman. They also added George Parros; he’s counted on to use his size (6′ 5” and 220 lb) to put on punishing checks. Peter Mueller also came in. As I mentioned earlier, even though he’s a good player, he’s had trouble with concussions.
It was unfortunate for the Panthers that Samuelsson, Garrison, and Wolski decided to leave. The GM made some good moves, and I think they could possibly perform as well as last season, but with how the Hurricanes and Capitals are shaping up, I don’t think they’ll make the playoffs.
