The Detroit Red Wings organization is a great franchise; they are one of the original 6 teams of the NHL. They are a part of one of my favorite rivalries between another original 6 team, the Chicago Blackhawks. I always expect them to be one of the best in the league every year. Last year, they had a 48-28-6 record, with 248 goals-for and only 203 goals-against.
This off-season, they lost Jiri Hudler, Brad Stuart, and the worst loss, Nick Lidstrom. Lidstrom retiring is a huge blow to the team. He has become a legend in the NHL, going down as one of the best players in Red Wings history. He was with them for 20 years, and captain for 6. He is a 7 time Norris Trophy winner, with 4 championships to his name. It’s impossible to replace player like that overnight.
The Red Wings sign 3 players this off-season. The 1st one was Jordin Tootoo. He isn’t a point scorer, but he can bring some skill and depth to a team. He can also play dirty. The Red Wings grabbed Mikael Samuelsson, who can put up 50+ points in a season. Lastly, they signed goalie Jonas Gustavsson.
As always, the Red Wings will make the playoffs. They will be less strong than last year, but only because of loss of the legendary defenseman Nick Lidstrom.
