The Colorado Avalanche finish 11th last season in the Western Conference. It has been a couple years since they last made the playoffs. They were in need in some big changes to qualify for them this year, and I believe that they have a good off-season.
The Colorado Avalanche lost 3 players this summer. 1st one was Peter Mueller. He is a good player, but (sadly) Post concussion syndrome last year and 2 concussions in the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 seasons have tarnished his career a bit. Mueller keeps playing, though, signing with the Florida Panthers. The Avalanche also lost Jay McClement, a great face-off man and penalty killer. The last was Kevin Porter.
It was who the Avalanche signed that was more important, though. They grabbed star forward PA Parenteau, a former New York Islanders’ player who can score 50-60 points a season. They also picked John Mitchell, a 3rd to 4th line forward. The last signing was Greg Zanon, a physical forward who is one of the best in shot blocking.
I believe they will be in the race for the playoffs.
