I’m not going to try to show favoritism with this post. Like I said before, I’m a huge Hurricanes fan (or caniac). I truthfully believe that the Hurricanes have made the most improvement this off-season, though. The Hurricanes received more than they originally wanted. The GM, Jim Rutherford, looking for 1 top 6 forward, found 2.
The Carolina Hurricanes have been on the verge of being a contender for the Stanley Cup the past 3 years. Last time they made the playoffs was 2009. They’ve needed little more help on both sides of the ice, but the 1st priority was working on the offense. The Hurricanes signed forward Alex Semin, former Washington Capitals’ star, who can put up 80+ points in a season. Through trade, Carolina grabbed Jordan Staal, one of the 3 brothers of Hurricanes’ captain, Eric Staal. He is a 50+ point scorer. The organization also has the youngest Staal brother, Jared. Rutherford is planning to receive defenseman Marc Staal in the near future.
Along with the 2 top 6 forwards, Jordan Staal and Semin, came some depth signings. They signed defenseman Joe Corvo, along with defenseman Marc-Andre Gragnani, and forward Tim Wallace.
With these moves, along with many other skilled players, I believe the Hurricanes will be a force to be reckoned with this season, as well as in the future. Again, I’m not trying to say all this as a fan. A lot of other analysts also believe the Hurricanes will be able to contend for the cup consistently.
